In the final episode of this season of For Every Response, Catherine talks to Dr Gareth Davies who heads up the medical team supporting the world famous TT Races on the Isle of Man.

With hundreds of competitors converging on the Island for the races that take place during May and June every year, the need for specialist medical care is vital. 150 volunteers form the team and provide care from physio to trauma care in what Gareth calls the hyper acute phase. The island also has to cope with tens of thousands of visitors and he shares the impact that has on existing medical care for residents.

It's a fascinating insight into providing medical care at a major event and how decades of experience working in emergency settings in London prepared Gareth for this very special job.

In this episode of the pod, Catherine Levin gets into the detail about the on-call firefighting system with Craig Flannery. Craig is the Chief Fire Officer for Mid and West Wales and his service has large numbers of on-call firefighters, drawn from local communities, these are people who will drop everything to respond to fires. The on-call firefighter has a day job and offers 'availability' to the local fire station to respond to fires day and night. 

They talk about the system, how it works, how to recruit and retain staff and about innovation. Some of that innovation is about pay structures and it's also in the use of data to better understand the impact that one person's availability can have on the service's ability to respond.

As Sir Andy Cooke leaves HMICFRS, he talks to Catherine Levin about his five years leading the inspectorate.

In an unusual departure for this podcast, Catherine Levin interviews two guests. She talks to Tom Baker and Ian Hogarth who together are the experts keeping the fleet of the RNLI on the road and at sea.
